INTERNATIONAL STUDENT CONTRACT

F-1 visa status is granted for the purpose of being a full-time student. All international students are required to abide by strict F-1 regulations. It is extremely important for students to understand and comply with all regulations. Check the USCIS website at www.USCIS.gov or SEVP at www.ice.gov/sevis for more information. A Designated School Official (DSO) is located at San José City College in the International Student Program Office.

Please carefully read each item and check each box.*

1.Tutition and Fees: Maintain sufficient funds for tuition, fees, books, and living expenses. Tuition/fees (including health insurance) are due in full at time of registration each semester.2. Enrollment Requirements: To complete a minimum of 12 units per semester at San José City College (SJCC). Withdrawing from a course and receiving “W” does not count towards completion of units. If I wish to take a reduced course load (less than 12 units), I must get authorization from the International Student Program. I can only complete one online course (3 units of my 12 units) per semester. Failure to maintain full-time enrollment will place me in violation of Immigration regulations.3. Class Attendance. Many instructors calculate absences into a final grade. Instructors can drop me from a course for non attendance. I must achieve passing grades (“C” or better A cumulative GPA of 2.0 is required to achieve satisfactory academic progress4. Degree Progression: To work towards and make degree progress following my educational plan with the guidance from the International Student Program in accordance with the college’s Academic Dismissal policy.5. Health Insurance: To have health insurance coverage for the duration of my studies at San José City College. I understand I must purchase and subscribe to the health insurance plan selected by the college district.6. Employment: Not to accept unauthorized employment. Off-campus employment without authorization from the ISP and/or USCIS is illegal; it is grounds for deportation. I understand I am not eligible for on-campus employment until I complete one semester at SJCC. I am eligible to accept only part-time employment on-campus while school is in session. I understand ISP does not guarantee on-campus employment nor responsible to secure my employment. It is my responsibility to find on-campus employment. I understand that I am permitted to work on-campus only if I maintain my F-1 status.7. Keep my passport, visa, and I-20 valid at all times. If I-20 expires prior to completion of my academic program, I will contact a DSO before program end date.8. Not leave the United States to any destination without having my I-20 signed by a DSO. If I plan to travel to Canada or Mexico, I may need to obtain a special visa.9. To report all changes in my personal and academic records to the ISP. Changes include reduction in units, change in name, address, phone number, email, transfer, marital status, residency status, major, etc. I understand that immigration requires San José City College to report all changes in my record. In my best interest, I should contact ISP before making any changes to my academic and personal records.10. To use my e-mail address as the major form of communication with SJCC & ISP. I will provide the International Student Office with my most current e-mail address and will check it often to stay informed of important immigration regulations and SJCC academic policies.11. Contact a DSO if you have any questions about the above information. I understand that I may be recommended to consult with USCIS or an attorney to remedy issues and concerns.

By signing below, I certify that I have read and understand this information. I certify that I take full responsibility for all of the above criteria and that failure to comply with any of these regulations or rules may result in delay, denial, or withdrawal of admission or continued attendance/enrollment. I also understand that non-compliance will result in a violation of USCIS law which can lead to a loss of my F-1 visa student status. I recognize that this contract is in effect from the time of initial admission to San José City College and throughout each semester of enrollment.
